Wiley Gets MBE in New Years Honours
The GodFather of Grime has been awarded an MBE in the New Years honours from the Queen. Wiley undisputedly is one of the pioneers of the genre and is being awarded for his services to music for which he deserves.
The artist born Richard Cowie said getting his MBE was like “the school grade I wanted and didn’t get”, saying he felt he was now “finally there”.
“I’m honoured to be receiving an MBE,” he told the Press Association. “I would like to thank my mother and father plus all family members and friends for being there when I needed them.”
From his early days in Bow Wiley was involved in a lot of the early garage crews from Pay as you go Maxwell D and Major Ace to Roll Deep Dizzy Rascal and Tinchy Stryder where Wiley began developing the sound that would become known as grime.
He had early underground production success with Eskimo, Avalanche and Snowman under the Wiley Kat Label. Not forgetting the Legendary Eskimo Dances held in London.
Wiley began picking up mainstream recognition in 2008 with wearing my Rolex and went to have a UK no1 with Heatwave. His latest album is released in February 2018 entitled Godfather 2 and we think its quite fitting.
Congratulation to Wiley and the team for their achievements definitely a day in the history of grime.
