After exploding on to the scene in the new Netflix marvel series “Luke Cage”. The actor Mike Colter’s who plays the title role—a wrongfully imprisoned ex-convict with bulletproof skin—but not much else has courted controversy with a revelation on his private life by Wendy Williams.

Luke Cage is a black superhero created in the 70’s around the time of populate Blaxploitation films. The creators unofficial tag for the character was“ The world is in need of a bulletproof black man.

A New Yorker like virtually every other earthbound Marvel character, he lived in Harlem, just a couple miles north of this very store. While he never achieved the blockbuster, iconic status of some of his mask-and-cape-wearing brethren, Cage enjoyed a cult following for decades.

So back to the controversy Mike made an appearance on the Wendy Williams show recently When Mike Colter walked out onto the show, the predominately female audience shouted, whooped and hollered. But when Wendy’s producers placed an image of him and his wife on the screen and that same audience saw she was White, the cheers were a bit more sporadic.

It wasn’t something Wendy addressed on her show but when Colter appeared on “The Breakfast Club,” Charlemagne made sure to ask the question.

Colter played it cool and responded:

“I love my sistas. People always go, ‘man that’s his type.’ If somebody caught a sista walking around with a 6-foot -seven brotha, is that her type? Next week you see her walking with a short brotha or spanish guy –do we have to have a type? I’m a human being. I look at people for character and what’s inside. Physically — that’s one thing — but you gotta be on the same page. I met my wife when I was struggling in grad school. She stuck with me for 16 years… people don’t understand when it comes to being with somebody long term, it’s way more than skin color that’s gonna make it work.”
