Cineworld in Flames
100’s of people were evacuated yesterday as a Fire erupted on Birminghams Broad St. Flames leapt into the sky when a sign at Cineworld Broad Street exploded into flames. Eyewitnesses who were at Nandos below the sign saw debris and pieces of the sign falling on the floor.
The fire service quickly responded and were there dealing with the incident within minutes. The area was cordoned off and the fire was put out.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Fire Service said that firefighters from Ladywood and Highgate stations tackled the fire. A total of six fire engines were at the scene. The flames were extinguished within half an hour and damping down was taking place.
Cineworld reopened for business at 7.45pm – though Bishopsgate Street remained closed while the debris was removed from the pavement outside of Nando’s.
